Course Description:
Doing the professionally right thing can be challenging! This presentation focuses on providing a
theoretical frame work for SLP’s to better apply information required by Texas Licensure Board Rules in
order to make the most ethical decisions in their daily practice. Ethical practice requires one to be
knowledgeable about the general principals of professional ethics and use a systematic approach to
apply those principals to each new situation.
About the Presenter:
Donise Pearson, is the Director of Clinical Operations for The University of Texas Dallas/
Callier Center for Communication Disorders, and an associate faculty member.
Mrs. Pearson was honored as an ASHA Fellow in 2008. She is a Past President of the Texas Speech -
Language-Hearing-Association and has served as the Vice President for Public Information and
Marketing on two occasions and the Public Chair for TSHA. She holds a Certificate of Clinical
Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language Hearing
Association and is licensed by The State of Texas.
Mrs. Pearson's areas of expertise include preschool-aged children, parent training, school -aged
children with learning disabilities, early identification of special needs children, and auditory
processing. She has taught courses on many workshops and communicative disorders with an
emphasis in phonological processes and articulation disorders, language development and
identification control for the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology.
Learner Objectives:
- Describe at least 3 major principal from the Texas Licensure Board Rules regarding Ethics.
- Apply ethical principals to hypothetical scenarios.
- Identify 3 actions which would be considered unethical.
